Backlinks - Get Them or Die.... (seriously)

"Die"... really...?

In a word... YES.

Read This to Discover why YOU NEED those backlinks...

So What is All the Fuss About Backlinks?

Well if you have a website, chances are very high you'd like a ton of Free 'Traffic' (site visitors) flooding to your website and making you incredibly rich in the process...

Sound good so far...?

Now assuming you do want that Free Traffic, you're going to NEED to be found in the search engines like Google and Bing using a few simple SEO techniques.

Don't be put off by the word SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), it's just another way of saying 'the way to get Google to LOVE you'...

Google is the big dog and major source of traffic, so for this article we'll focus on Google as the rules are pretty similar for other search engines...

Important Information About Backlinks...

You DON'T want just any backlinks - you want RELEVANT and QUALITY backlinks that will help you rank high in your chosen directory or search engine.

So what is a relevant and quality backlink and how do you get them...?

Well each backlink (a link from another site to your site) is classed by the search engines as a vote for your site.

When Google visits your site via these links using what are known as spiders and bots (computer software basically) it checks the Relevance and the Quality of the links that are used to send web users to your site.

In general it will REWARD your site, by placing it on the first pages of its free search results, if the backlinks to your site have the following characteristics:

Link Relevance:

The search engines, especially Google, like the sites that link to your site to be relevant to the subject matter of your site.

It is quite easy to get backlinks - but you want relevant ones.

Relevant links show that other sites RELATED to yours find your site content to be interesting.

Google's logic is that this should interest web users who went to the site linking to yours = a good thing for the user = your site is considered 'relevant' = you stand a better chance of being shown of page one for your site's information.

Link Quality:

Page Rank (PR) is a measurement used by Google to rank sites and when it finds "quality" sites with a high PR linking to your site, it will in turn rank your site more highly...

Google's PR rates websites between 1-10 - the higher the number, the more important Google considers a site to be.

So in general, the higher the Page Rank of the sites that link to yours, the better.

Having high PR sites linking to your site is seen as a measure of the quality of your site.

Important Note #1 About Backlinking

It is agreed by many experts (and in my own eperience) that relevant links are often more valuable than high PR links.

Quantity of Links:

The more QUALITY backlinks you have, the more popular and RELEVANT your site is seen to be and the higher it will rank in the search engines = you stand a better chance of getting onto Page One of the Free Search Results (where the money is made).

Remember - the more quality links to your website, the better.

And the more ways that people can find your site, the more likely they are to visit!

So...

Building or obtaining backlinks to your site should be at the core of your internet marketing strategy and activities...

BUT…

How do you get these magical backlinks?

Well, start by checking your web site is optimised correctly.

Optimisation means you have set your site up the way Google wants it to be set up.

(This is another article in itself, so watch out for more help in this area by subscribing to my newsletter.)

Optimisation ensures that you are found by the search engines in the first place and can therefore be found by others seeking to build backlinks for their own site.

So where do you find these magical backlinks?

Well first of all people will start linking to you as your site (naturally) climbs the search engine ranks.

Not all of these links will be high PR or particularly relevant...

But be aware that THESE LINKS ARE STILL VALUABLE.

Many links are "poor quality" links on link farms or sites the have very little content but lots of links.

These sites are set up just for this purpose and although the links offered have very little value in the classic sense of the word, they create something known as "natural linking".

What this basically means is that Google knows that ALL sites get these 'poor quality' links.

They are just a part of the internet and show that REAL people and REAL sites (so not you) are linking to your site.

Here's the funny bit…

Google will actually REWARD you for a certain (not too large) quantity of "crappy" links as it shows you haven't artificially created a ton of high quality links for your site to "trick" Google into placing you onto page one of its search results.

Remember, Google wants these links to be from OTHER SOURCES (not you) but it has no real way of checking who makes the links to your sites.

So how does Google decide if your site has "natural linking"…?

It LOOKS for low quality links as well as high quality links and assumes that if a small amount of "poor" linking is going on, then REAL people (not you) are linking to your site… and it will reward you for it by pushing you up the ranks!

Important Note #2 About Backlinking

DO NOT BUY one of these offers you sometimes see for 10,000 backlinks or more to your website...

They are almost always LOW QUALITY BACKLINKS and having too many of these is NOT natural and Google will PUNISH you for them by moving you LOWER down its free search results - you've been warned!

Anyway… back to your linking methods:

The most common methods of producing links to your web site are creating blog comments and posting articles.

Forum comments are another good technique.

There are now millions of articles on the internet - all allowing links back to web sites in the form of comments on the articles or within the articles themselves.

The majority of these links are never followed but they ALL count.

If you want to get your article read, passed around and followed back to your web site then make sure the content is interesting, funny or controversial and worthy of being read.

So many articles now say the same boring things and your challenge is to rise above the trash!

Make your resource box compelling, put a good link in it and put your articles on high ranking article sites such as ezinearticles.com

Use a couple of lesser known article sites as well - such as articlebase.com so that you have a better chance of being seen.

If your article is good, it will get snapped up by lazy website owners, copied and pasted onto their site and as a result will NATURALLY start appearing in blogs and on other web sites - all with a valuable backlink to your website embedded in it (assuming you've remembered to place a link within your article and in the resource box).

Creating smaller blogs and posting content on them that links to your "money site" is a great technique as well.

Again, offer good quality information and link back to your site within the article.

Whilst we are on the subject of blogs...

Make sure you visit a few blogs RELATED TO YOUR WEBSITE and make intelligent comments.

This allows you to place your signature, in which you can insert a backlink to your website.

This works on forums and social networking sites (such as Twitter) as well!

So you see, its not that difficult to get backlinks - you just need to know how and practice the process every week!

FOOTNOTE: One of my readers pointed out some people may not know how to make a link with anchor text...

In case you aren't sure, here's an example in HTML (the language websites are written in).

You may or may not need this but at some point it may be useful, so make sure you bookmark this page :)

Example:

WHAT THE USER SEES:

Click the link to Get Tips From A Seven Figure Marketer

I had to upload the HTML Code as an image.

If you want to, you can see it in text form here = you can copy and paste it.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the valuable info! I would like to ask something. When you write a comment in a blog, the comment box asks for your name, email and website. When you fill those is there a backlink already set or you have to put a link inside your comment like this: agores online ?
Thanks a lot.

I see in my previous comment that my link doesn't work. This means that is a no-follow link or I've done something wrong?

Hi Gboy

Great question :)

The simple answer is: normally, yes.

In may cases when write a comment in a blog and you add your website, this will automatically create a link to your site.

To be 100% sure, click on a few people's names and see if they send you to a website.

If the names are links, then yours will be too :)

9 times out of 10, this will work as a backlink to your site.
