What Is An Affiliate?

If you are new to internet marketing you will be asking – what is an affiliate?

Put simply an affiliate is someone who...

...promotes someone else’s product in return for a percentage of the sale price.

Affiliate marketing is one of the most popular ways for internet marketers to make money on the internet.

This is how it generally works:

1) Find a great product that you believe in.

You don't HAVE TO believe in the product, but it certainly helps…

After all, you will be spending some time and maybe money in promoting this item.

It can often help if you choose a small niche that you are interested in and that not too many other people are also competing in.

This is because not only will you be spending some time with the product but you may also choose to write some articles, and join some forums on this subject.

To understand what you are marketing makes this much easier.

When looking for your product you can start with Clickbank which is the largest affiliate product market.

You might also hear about products from being on a marketer's mailing list, from forums and through general web surfing.

2) Next you need to look at the commission that you will earn for each sale.

If you are looking at a low commission, first of all is it worth it?

Generally anything above $30 is usually acceptable, anything below this may make it hard for you to profit.

Below $30 means that you will need to sell in larger volumes…

BUT you might not have too much competition from other internet marketers which can sometimes be an advantage.

If the product price is too high (above $100) it can make it more difficult to sell.

I tend to promote products that cost about $40 to $60 and recommend this to most affiliates.

3) Now you have your product, set your marketing budget.

Many affiliate marketers use a zero budget, which is fine if you understand the basics of SEO.

Now you can set up your marketing strategy

A web site or blog is a great start, create a whole site or a webpage using the product name as the main keyword in the website address (called a domain).

A page would look like this:

www.yourwebsite.com/product-name

While a domain JUST for promoting one product would look something like this:

www.product-name-review.com

Now write reviews, maybe mention the product in forums and blogs (including your affiliate link) and get some buzz going on.

Once you get started and get the hang of affiliate marketing, you can soon add other affiliate products and increase your income.

So in answer to the quesion: what is an affiliate?

The answer is someone who makes money on the internet by earning commissions from selling other peoples' products in exchange for commissions.

Hello Mike I just got your program today, just watched the first video. I want to thank you sir for keeping it real. I am a novest at affiliate marketing, bought several automated software, it was not as easy to set up as they claim, I'm not a technical person; I feel that I'm a first grader when it comes to computer. I need simple stuff that will really work. I believe I have that with your program. I look forward to start making money soon, I consider myself as a first grader affiliate marketer! I have not made any money in affiliate marketing yet, hopefully that will change today. Thanks again for your wonder program. Dennis AKA DW.

Dear Mike:

First of all, i want to thank God for finally bringing you into my life. He's always on time. I genuinely believe that it takes a real teacher and educator to teach me. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for your honesty. You are right to say that there are alot of charatans out there. I bought your basic program for now so i can absorb everything that you teach. Then i know i will upgrade. I'm a first grader too at computers and internet marketing. I recently was laid off from my job and am a 58yr old with no retirement plan. I bought me a little notebook computer for the first time 4 months ago; and guess what i just learned today how to email. I've received over 700 emails in that time from different people selling programs. I too have spent a few bucks trying to find the right program, but have yet to make any money. I guess i just did'nt get the right support or encouragement. I feel in my heart that now i have found a home. Sincerely, Richard
